The SF SPCA Mission Hospital at 201 Alabama Street (Leanne B. Roberts Animal Care Center) is here to help in the event of an emergency Sunday through Friday from 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM (noon).

If you believe your pet needs emergency care, call (415) 554-3030 and our team will direct you to our emergency services or schedule you an urgent care appointment within 48 hours.

Please know, our hospital hours of admission and wait-times vary depending on case urgency and capacity. Life-threatening cases take priority and are determined upon check-in. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.

Virtual Vet Triage

Available 24/7
For a $50 fee*, the Vet Triage veterinarian will help you determine if your pet’s needs are, in fact, a true emergency and/or provide guidance for at-home care if appropriate.

*Vet Triage fee is not reimbursable by the SF SPCA

Potential Emergencies Include:

  • Ingestion of a foreign object (toy, string, bone, etc.)
  • Ingestion of poison (bring container or name of chemical ingested)
  • Vomiting and/or diarrhea
  • Loss of appetite
  • Lethargy
  • Difficulty breathing (gasping, noisy respiration, blue tongue, etc.)
  • Difficulty urinating or defecating
  • Difficulty standing
  • Inability to deliver puppies or kittens
  • Hit by car
  • Seizure
  • Animal bite

If your animal has an emergency:

  • Do not try home remedies
  • Be careful – animals in pain can bite or scratch
  • Get help as quickly as possible
