The SF SPCA partners with Mission Food Hub, a food bank located near our Mission Campus, to provide cat and dog food to community members in need. This is where we met Jacinta Moreno, who visits weekly to get supplies for herself and her dog, Nely.
Jacinta mentioned that Nely had not seen a veterinarian in years and previously had an accidental litter. Jacinta had not spayed Nely because she couldn’t afford the cost and wasn’t aware of the financial assistance that the SF SPCA offers.
We connected Jacinta to our spay/neuter resources and soon Nely was at our clinic. When Nely arrived for surgery, we discovered that she was heavily matted and had a severe ear infection. Before the spay surgery our team shaved Nely and started her on treatment for the infection.
Two weeks later Jacinta brought Nely for a checkup at our Call Ahead Clinic, which offers preventative medical services at a reduced cost. Our staff noted that there was a great improvement in Nely’s ear infection. Nely is now happier, healthier, and spayed!
