Jojo came to us in July with a chronic medical condition that required expensive medication. She had Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia (IMHA), which is an immune disease where the body attacks red blood cells. Because of the cost of the medication, her owner at the time decided to re-home her to a family that would be able to provide the care she needed.
Being a special girl with special needs, Jojo was placed in a foster home to receive more acute attention. While in foster, her active, curious personality came out, and she quickly made friends with her doggy foster sibling.
Jojo had frequent appointments with our Shelter Medicine team to manage her condition, and soon won the hearts of all our staff. She was friendly, smart, eager to learn, and had the best smile. The last piece of the puzzle was finding her a forever home, which took longer than expected.
We began to fear that her medical condition would prove to be too much for many adopters.
But after 106 days in the shelter and foster care, Jojo was finally adopted!
She had waited long enough and found the perfect family who was unfazed by her medical history. Now Jojo is living her best life and getting the care she deserved all along. Way to go, Jojo!!
We are committed to finding homes for animals like Jojo no matter what, even if it takes 106 days. In some cases, our commitment to care continues post adoption. Jojo came to us because her previous owner couldn’t afford her medication and we never want an animal to be surrendered due to financial burdens. We remain committed to helping because we believe that pets and their people are better together. Donate today if you think so too.
