Happy Tails: Buzz

Buzz was adopted as a puppy from the San Francisco SPCA in 2021, and even then, his adopter could tell this pup was something special. As Buzz grew up, it became clear he had the intelligence, drive, and nose for something big, so he and his adopter began training with the California Rescue Dog Association (CARDA) to become a certified search and rescue team.

CARDA trains and deploys search dog teams to assist law enforcement and public safety agencies in finding missing persons across California. It’s incredibly challenging, but Buzz was up for the job.

We’re thrilled to share that Buzz and his adopter recently passed their Area Mission Ready K9 Search and Rescue test! That means they’re officially certified to search for missing persons in wilderness and non-urban areas. To earn this title, Buzz had to locate two hidden people across 110 acres in four hours or less.

Buzz’s adopter shared the good news and wrote that “My family and I continue to be so appreciative to the SF SPCA for bringing Buzz into our lives.”

When he’s not on the job, Buzz is all about play and relaxation. He loves chasing sticks and balls, exploring hiking trails in the East Bay, and ending the day curled up with his people.

Congratulations, Buzz! Your journey from shelter pup to certified search dog is nothing short of inspiring. We’re proud of you and your incredible dog dad!
