James J. “Jim” Ludwig was a longtime supporter of the San Francisco SPCA, whose generosity leaves a lasting legacy. He was an SF SPCA Trustee Emeritus and sat on our Board of Directors for more than 25 years. He is remembered for relentlessly mining his vast network of friends and associates to aid the animals in our community who needed our lifesaving services. In 2009, the James J. Ludwig Educational Fund was established to provide annual grants of up to $15,000 annually for professional development of SF SPCA employees. Since the first grant year, a total of 202 grants totaling $176,000 have been made.
Alice Jordan, Senior Vice President of People Development and Education said, “Ludwig Educational Grants provided so many above and beyond opportunities for our team members. Every year after reading every grant proposal, Mr. Ludwig would say they were all terrific and he wanted to fund them all. There were many times he would generously add to the fund so we could do just that.”
Grants fund learning opportunities such as conferences, workshops, higher education, on-site skill building, and volunteering with organizations providing veterinary care to underserved communities. His contributions to the Society are beyond measure as is our gratitude for all that he made possible.
