Zoey’s Beautiful Transformation

Zoey arrived at our shelter with fur so severely matted that she was unrecognizable. Matted fur can cause all sorts of health issues, not to mention it’s very uncomfortable for an animal. Imagine hair being so long and knotted that you can’t move your head, can’t see where you’re going, and it’s so heavy that carrying it around is almost painful.

That’s what happened to Zoey. Her high level of matting was not only uncomfortable, it didn’t allow her to urinate properly, which resulted in a urinary tract infection. Upon arrival, our Shelter Medicine team quickly shaved her mats and began treatment for her UTI.

Finally, we were able to see Zoey for who she was and boy did she have the cutest face and spots! After her makeover, Zoey’s sweet, affectionate personality shined through and it wasn’t long until she caught the attention of her new forever family.

We love getting updates on our #SFSPCAalumni, and we were overjoyed to receive this from Zoey’s family:

“I’m so happy to let you know that Zoey is adjusting very well to her new home. Every day she is more relaxed and is fitting in very well with our routine. We have a crate in our bedroom and she sleeps all night long without a peep out of her.

Her favorite game is playing ‘keep away’ with her new toys. Because her teeth are an issue, I bought a nylabone for her. She didn’t pay any attention to it, but if I pick it up and say it’s my bone, she takes it away and chews on it. She is now picking it up on her own and gnawing on it. SUCCESS!

Thank you again for giving us the opportunity to adopt Zoey.”

Zoey’s transformation goes to show you can’t judge a book by its cover. Give an animal the chance to succeed and they will!
