Travel Certificates
Travel regulations and requirements vary by airline and destination. Before coming to one of the SF SPCA Veterinary Hospitals for a travel certificate, please determine what is necessary for your trip. Our veterinarians and client services staff are available to complete any examinations, lab work and paperwork required for travel.
For domestic air travel, state health officials generally require health certificates for all animals. Health certificates must be issued by a licensed veterinarian who examined the animal within 10 days of departure. For dogs and cats, airlines generally require travel certificates at check-in.
For travel to U.S. territories and foreign countries, we recommend contacting the appropriate embassy, government agency or consulate at least four weeks in advance. For travel to Hawaii, the United Kingdom, and other island nations, we recommend contacting the appropriate agency a MINIMUM of six months prior to your planned departure.
Visit the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s website to learn more about requirements for travelling with an animal: http://www.aphis.usda.gov/
To schedule a procedure, we require an initial examination to assess your pet’s needs and provide a cost estimate.
