SAN FRANCISCO (August 5, 2026)— The San Francisco SPCA (SF SPCA) has joined NBCUniversal Local‘s 12th annual Clear The Shelters pet adoption and donation campaign during the month of August, with an extended fundraising initiative running now through Sept. 15. As part of the nationwide initiative, the SF SPCA is offering name-your-price adoptions on all adult animals throughout the month of August. Throughout the US, NBC and Telemundo stations partner with local animal shelters and rescues to promote pet adoption and raise funds that support animal welfare. Since its 2015 inception, Clear The Shelters has helped more than 1.3 million pets find new homes and has raised more than $5.6 million for participating shelters and rescues.
“The animals in our care have so much to give: companionship, comfort, a reason to get up in the morning, and a whole lot of heart,” said Jennifer Scarlett, CEO of the SF SPCA. “Everyone deserves that kind of love in their life, and no one should miss out because of the cost. This August, we’re offering name-your-price adoptions for every adult animal, making it easier for more people to see how much a pet can add to a home and helping these animals find the loving families they deserve.”
Donations, which support the SF SPCA’s ability to waive adoption fees, can be made at https://www.sfspca.org/cts-2026/. Animals available at the SF SPCA can be viewed online at sfspca.org/adoptions. In addition to visiting the shelter, potential adopters also have the option to use the SF SPCA’s virtual adoption service, which allows website users to browse adoptable pets and schedule a virtual meet-and-greet.
NBCUniversal partnered with WeRescue so that potential adopters can browse adoptable pets across the greater Bay Area by breed, gender, size, and more, apply to adopt, and ask questions directly to shelters. New this year, Scout helps visitors find their best match with just a few quick questions.
On Saturday, August 22, the SF SPCA will host a special adoption event, where all adoption fees are waived, including puppies and kittens.
