San Francisco’s favorite holiday tradition is back for its 33rd year!

The holidays are the perfect time to celebrate the joy that animals bring to our lives every day.  This year, San Francisco SPCA and San Francisco Animal Care & Control are partnering to bring the magic to the Macy’s Holiday Windows.

November 22 - January 1

Hours:

The Windows will remain open every day throughout the holiday season from 10am to 7pm, except Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Please note that on Sunday, November 24, the Windows will be open from 11am to 6pm.

The kittens, puppies, chinchillas, rabbits, and guinea pigs in the windows are all available for adoption from Macy’s.  All animals adopted at Macy’s will be available to take home that day from 5pm to 7pm or from SF SPCA or ACC the following day.

Donate

Did you know that we help nearly three quarters of our adoptable animals overcome medical challenges in our Shelter Medicine department before they can be adopted? Medical care is just one of many ways the SF SPCA has made a difference in the lives of thousands of animals every year for the last 151 years.

As an independent, local nonprofit, we rely on charitable giving to help animals and their people. Donations from people like you ensure animals like those in the windows receive the help they need and the loving homes they deserve. Give today and your gift will be matched.

  • Each Christmas window display is a project nearly a year in the making as plans for the next year’s windows begin in January, almost immediately after the windows are taken down.
  • It takes a dedicated team of more than 250 of Santa’s helpers to bring the windows to life including Macy’s display artists, graphic artists, sculptural artists, animators, carpenters, electricians and music and sound experts.
  • Installation of the Christmas windows takes 21 days and nights.
  • The windows will run through January 1, 2020.

Holiday Windows FAQ

No, the animals return to their respective shelters each evening.

Macy’s has gone to extensive lengths to ensure the animals are both safe and comfortable in the windows.  Though it may be either hot or cold outside, each enclosure is temperature controlled and should the windows become too warm at certain points in the day, the animals are removed.

SF ACC staff handles the adoptions of SF ACC animals.  SF SPCA staff handles the adoptions for SF SPCA animals.

The adoption process includes a screening of potential adopters for their suitability for guardianship as well as matching individuals to specific animals.  We employ the same rigorous adoption standards at Macy’s as at our permanent adoption centers.

Donations made outside of Macy’s will go to the SF SPCA and ACC.

Yes, they will be available at the adoption centers if they do not return to Macy’s.
