A Month of Joy and New Beginnings

Each August, Clear the Shelters reminds us of the incredible power of community when we come together to celebrate the joy of shelter animals. This year was no exception.

The San Francisco SPCA Adoption Center was filled with excitement and plenty of Happy Tails thanks to all the adopters, volunteers, staff, and supporters who made this month possible. Read more about this year’s event and how you can continue to support the SF SPCA.

A record-breaking day

On August 23, we hosted a special one-day adoption celebration, featuring waived adoption fees on all available animals. By the end of the day, 161 cats and dogs found loving homes, marking it the largest single adoption day in our history.

If you’ve recently welcomed a new family member or two, review our resources for new pet parents for expert advice on settling in with your new companion. Caring for a new cat, kitten, puppy, or dog is an exciting adventure, and we’re thrilled to be part of your adoption journey!

Emptier shelters, fuller homes

While August 23 was a shining highlight, the entire month of Clear the Shelters was filled with heartwarming stories. 589 animals were adopted in August and are now cherished new family members. But each adoption is more than a number—it’s a new beginning and a lifelong bond. As we wrap up Clear the Shelters, learn more about how you can support the SF SPCA:

  • Share your story: Are you interested in sharing your SF SPCA adoption story? Email adoptions@sfspca.org with details about your pet’s story, and they may be featured in our next Happy Tail!
  • Adopt: Did you miss out on adopting during Clear the Shelters? You’re in luck, because it’s never too late to adopt from the SF SPCA.
  • Foster: Not quite ready to adopt? Join our foster volunteers and give animals a break from the shelter while they search for their forever home.
