Meet Gia, a beautiful new arrival from SF Animal Care and Control who is ready to make a little news of her own. Named after NBC Bay Area anchor Gia Vang, this lovely girl shares a name with someone whose real-life story is all about finding your voice, making an impact and proving that a great presence can make people stop and pay attention.
The human Gia is the daughter of Hmong refugees from Laos, grew up in California as one of ten children and went on to become the first Hmong anchor in a major U.S. news market. She has built her career around storytelling, representation and making sure voices that have not always been heard get their moment in the spotlight.
Our feline Gia seems perfectly comfortable with a little attention of her own. She is friendly, sweet and happy to make new acquaintances, no lengthy interview process required. Offer her some gentle head pets, a tasty treat or, even better, a little Churu, and you may quickly hear her very impressive purr motor delivering the evening’s breaking news.
With her gorgeous green eyes, beautiful markings and warm personality, Gia has the kind of presence that makes her easy to notice and even easier to like. She is affectionate, engaging and appears more than ready to trade shelter life for a home where she can become someone’s favorite daily correspondent.
And perhaps that makes Gia an especially fitting name. The real Gia Vang has spoken about wanting to make an impact rather than simply being known as a “first.” This Gia is looking to make an impact of her own, preferably on one very lucky person’s couch, heart and supply of Churu.
Come meet Gia. The latest report is in, and all signs point to one very friendly cat looking for her happily-ever-after headline.
