Meet Calvin and Hobbes, a pair of senior brothers who have spent their entire lives together. Calvin is the handsome gray one and Hobbes is the warm buff-colored one. Like their famous namesakes, they make quite the team, with Calvin occasionally making sure everyone knows which spot on the bed he has claimed.

After some recent changes, these sweet brothers are feeling a little shy as they settle back into shelter life. They appreciate a gentle approach and time to get comfortable, then show their loving side on their own terms.

Calvin and Hobbes have shared a lifetime of companionship and are looking for a home where they can keep making memories side by side. They must be adopted together, so if you have room in your heart and home for two devoted senior boys, come meet this wonderful pair.

How to Adopt Calvin

Our adoption process focuses on bringing people and animals together. Adoption counselors are on site to answer questions and help connect you with your new best friend.

We offer same-day adoptions, meaning if you meet all the adoption requirements, you can leave with your newly adopted animal that same day. Get started by viewing our available cats and dogs.

Adoption Requirements

You must be at least 18 years of age
Have a government-issued photo ID
Provide proof of address

In-Person Adoption

Drop by the San Francisco SPCA Adoption Center to meet our available animals.

1. Visit Our Adoption Center

The SF SPCA Adoption Center is located at 250 Florida Street in San Francisco. No advance appointment or application required.

2. Meet the Animals

Our Adoptions team will introduce you to our available cats and dogs and answer any questions you might have. If you’d like to conduct an introduction with your resident dog, please bring your dog with you.

Please note that we only facilitate dog-dog introductions,  and we do not conduct dog-cat introductions.

3. Make Your Decision

If you find the perfect animal, our team will verify your information and finalize your adoption. Please note that we cannot hold animals for you, and your adoption is not complete until you submit your payment.

4. Take Your New Pet Home

Once your adoption is complete, you get to take your new best friend home.

Virtual Adoption

Our Virtual Adoption Program lets you find your new best friend from the comfort of your home.

1. Fill Out Form

Fill out our Virtual Adoption Form and submit your information.

2. Meet the Animals

Our Adoptions team will schedule a virtual meet-and-greet with available animals, and our team can answer any questions you have. Please note that virtual adoptions are not available for kittens.

3. Make Your Decision

If you find the perfect animal, our team will verify your information and finalize your adoption virtually. Please note that we cannot hold animals for you, and your adoption is not complete until you submit your payment.

4. Pick Up Your New Pet

Once your adoption is complete, you get to take your new best friend home.
