For eight months, Boba Fetch trotted through the halls of the San Francisco SPCA with his signature goofy grin, irresistible wiggle, and a heart full of hope. The 6-year-old Australian Cattle Dog mix joined us from Madera County Animal Services, one of our California Humane Animal Transfer Team (CHATT) partners. He had a few quirks, plenty of charm, and an out-of-this-world personality that made him an instant favorite.
Life at the SF SPCA
While at our shelter, Boba loved head scratches, long walks, and showing off his smarts with treat-worthy tricks. Boba’s loyal heart and playful spirit won over everyone who spent time with him.
We knew his perfect match was out there, someone who’d find the joy in sharing a home with a dog who could snore louder than a Wookiee. While he waited, Boba received everything he needed to flourish: behavior support, medical care, enrichment activities, and daily doses of love from our dedicated staff and volunteers.
Becoming a local celebrity
With his expressive eyes and unmistakable charm, Boba became a local celebrity. We featured him frequently on social media, hoping to find his perfect match.
Our community rallied behind him and one young fan even created a hand-drawn flyer to help him get adopted. As Boba’s fame grew, so did the number of people rooting for his adoption, whether online or on the street.
Mission accomplished: Boba heads home
Boba’s Happy Tail finally arrived when one of our volunteers decided to foster him. Despite thinking their ideal pup was small, quiet, and non-shedding, Boba’s adopter was won over by his incredible personality and endless affection.
“I never, in a million years, would have predicted that I would adopt a herding dog,” shared his adopter. “But here I am, the proud owner of Boba Fetch. I was reading up on Australian Cattle Dogs during our trial adoption period, and the sources all described a dog with an unrelenting work ethic. Then I’d look over at Boba and he’d be snoring on the couch.”
Now, Boba is enjoying life as a beloved family member. His journey is a testament to the power of patience, the magic of second chances, and the joy that comes when the right human and animal find each other.
