On April 13, our brand-new animal transport vehicle, called a box truck, rolled into the San Francisco SPCA, carrying over 100 adorable and adoptable cats and kittens from Los Angeles, marking the start of an exciting new chapter in our transport capabilities for adoptable animals.
Thanks to generous donor support, we were able to purchase and customize a vehicle designed specifically for the safe, comfortable transport of cats and dogs. Built with our mission in mind, this box truck increases the number of animals we can help on their journey to loving homes.
Earlier this year, we partnered with Stray Cat Alliance to bring 93 cats to San Francisco. Now, with the help of our incredible foster and adopter community, we’re excited to do it again with even more animals.
This new box truck allows us to expand our transport capacity. With more space and the ability to safely transport more animals at once, we can respond more effectively to overcrowding in partner shelters and increase the number of adoptable animals we bring into our care. This inaugural run of cats and kittens ahead of kitten season is just the beginning.

How strong transport networks help animals
Transfers like these are a critical part of a strong, collaborative shelter network. Like many shelters across California, Los Angeles shelters are facing significant overcrowding. By bringing adoptable cats to the SF SPCA, we help relieve that pressure while giving more animals access to medical and behavioral care before getting adopted. At the same time, we’re able to match these animals with adopters here in San Francisco who are ready to welcome them into loving homes.
The next step in this journey from Los Angeles to San Francisco is to help each one of these cats and kittens find a loving home. Meet our adoptable cats today!
If you’ve been thinking about adopting a new pet, now is the perfect time. Also, if you’d like to see our new truck in person, join us at our Birthday Block Party on April 18, where our “Mission Driven” box truck will be on display.
