The San Francisco SPCA awards financial aid based on annual household income (combined income of all earners in the household) and family size. Aid is available for:

  • Community Service Saturdays
  • High School Volunteer Program
  • School Break and Holiday Animal Camps
  • Puppy Movie Night
  • Summer Animal Camp

Documentation of Need

If you think you qualify for financial aid, please complete the registration process for the program of your choice and click "Yes" when asked "Do you qualify for financial aid?" Once your registration is submitted, Humane Education staff will contact you within three business days via email to collect financial need documentation.

We ask financial aid applicants to provide their most recent tax return. This information is not kept on file. Once financial need has been proven, the tax document will either be returned to the recipient, shredded or deleted if submitted electronically.

Financial aid recipients must submit documentation each year to determine qualification.

Financial aid requests are accepted until two weeks prior to the start of a program. This allows time to collect documentation, determine discounts and process discounted payments if necessary. Note: For Summer Animal Camp, the deadline for financial aid requests is May 1.

If you request financial aid, we will reserve a space in the program for which you register. A SF SPCA representative will email you within three business days of your request with instructions and a deadline for submitting tax documentation. If you do not respond by your deadline, your program registration will be cancelled.

The SF SPCA Humane Education department makes a special effort to attract at-risk youth. This may include foster children, children whose parents have been the victim of domestic violence or other youth who have had substantial disruptions to their family life. We make a limited number of scholarships available to at-risk youth families. Scholarships assist young people from all backgrounds who display mature, respectful, thoughtful behavior and treat others with kindness and compassion. Families or agencies can apply for scholarships by describing the circumstances that have placed the child at risk. Please contact the Humane Education department via email for more information or to apply for a scholarship.

Program Limitations

Due to the overwhelming need for financial aid and scholarships, the SF SPCA must limit the number of programs available each year to recipients. Each recipient has the opportunity to participate in one of each of the below Humane Education programs per school semester at the award level established through documentation of need. Fall semester occurs September - December, Spring semester occurs January - May, and Summer semester occurs June - August.

  • Community Service Saturday
  • High School Volunteer Program
  • School Break and Holiday Animal Camp
  • Puppy Movie Night
  • Summer Animal Camp
