In April 2017, Stefanie joined SF SPCA as a part time employee after six years of working as a relief veterinarian. She graduated from Washington State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2003. After graduation, she worked at local private practices in the central valley of California, where she lives with her husband, Roger Helmers (also a veterinarian at SF SPCA).
Stefanie has a long history with the SPCA. She worked at the original hospital as a technician prior to veterinary school, and continued to do relief work here as a veterinarian after acquiring her doctoral degree.
Stefanie has many hobbies including horsemanship with an emphasis on healthy biomechanics, maintaining a reef tank, and a fitness program including yoga. She lives on a small farm with her husband and enjoys taking care of their variety of animals.
