Dog, Cat and Smalls Socializing and Training
Help make their stay less stressful and ready them for a loving home by spending time socializing or training cats, dogs, rats and rabbits and making sure dogs get their daily walks. Advanced volunteer opportunities available including Adoption Matchmaking, Animal Photography, Dog Training Class Assistance and Food Preparation and Feeding.
Animal Assisted Therapy Volunteer
Take your trained and certified pet to visit hospitals, nursing homes, schools, and even SFO to bring the therapeutic value of animals to those in need. Learn more about our Animal Assisted Therapy programs .
Community Cares Volunteer
Community Cat Team
Help trap feral and free roaming cats for the trap-neuter-return (TNR) program. Assist in the intake of cats, train and educate the community on TNR, and so much more. Read more about Community/Feral Cats .
Volunteer from your home, where you will care for young kittens or puppies until they are old enough to return to the shelter for adoption, or give a loving, end-of-life home to terminally ill animals. Read more about Foster opportunities .

Front Desk and Administrative Assistance
Assist our staff with greeting clients, paperwork, making calls, data entry, project management and problem solving.
Be on call to help with parties, adopt-a-thons, and fundraisers throughout the year.
Short Term Volunteer Opportunities
Done-in-a-Day – special half-day project assignments for corporate groups or clubs often include helping with administrative tasks, painting, deep cleaning, gardening, special projects, or events. We provide a tour of our campus and an overview of our mission. Most often done-in-a-day opportunities do not include direct animal care or handling. Project 20 Community Service – individuals working to pay off traffic citations through Project 20 assist us seven days a week with the hundreds of loads of laundry we do at the SF SPCA. If you are interested in community service through Project 20, please call 415-522-3523
