Dr. Keith Farquhar is a native of Montana and earned his bachelor degree from Montana State University and his DVM degree from Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado in 2002. Prior to joining the San Francisco SPCA, he worked in private practices in the Bay Area, as well as the Sacramento region.
Prior to attending veterinary medical school Dr. Farquhar served as a police K9 handler in Montana. When his K9 partner became ill, he spent a lot of time at a local veterinary hospital where he decided that veterinary medicine was a better career for him than law enforcement. After his police dog was retired for medical reasons, Dr. Farquhar went back to school to complete requirements for applying to veterinary school and was admitted on his first application.
Dr. Farquhar has special interests in preventive care, pain management, surgery, and working dogs.
During his off time, Dr. Farquhar likes to spend time with his wife and two stepdaughters and their two dogs, two cats, and one guinea pig. Being an amateur (very, very amateur) photographer any chance to go to Point Reyes, the Sierras, or on whale watching trips is a bonus! A yearly pilgrimage back to Montana is also required.
