Campers learn how to help animals while enjoying their summer school break

March 22, 2017 – Today registration opens for the San Francisco SPCA’s Summer Animal Camps. Students entering grades 1 – 8 in the fall are invited to spend a week learning about animal welfare, interacting with animals, taking behind-the-scenes tours, playing games, and making new friends. This year’s camps include more time than ever before with the SF SPCA’s animal ambassadors, including chinchillas, guinea pigs, pigeons, rats, dogs, cats, reptiles, and a rabbit.

Weekly sessions run May 29 – August 25, 9am – 4pm. Extended care is available from 8:30am – 5:30pm.

“These camps always sell out! Last year we had nearly 1,000 summer campers,” said Maggie Amiano, SF SPCA Humane Education Manager. “Our summer camps are a great opportunity for animal-loving kids to have fun during summer break while also learning how to align choices with their values, make their community a safer place for all animals, and develop a strong sense of compassion.”

The fee for each weeklong session is $440. Financial aid and scholarships are available for qualified applicants. The deadline to apply for assistance is May 1, 2017.

Curriculum details for each age group can be found here.
