The San Francisco SPCA announced that it will be hosting a 72-hour adoption event to find permanent, loving homes for 72 animals. Beginning July 30 at Maddie's Adoption Center, the "72 in 72" event will feature dancing, workshops and great food while promoting animal welfare causes and encouraging people who are considering adoptions to meet—and adopt—a pet companion for their family. The event will feature extended adoption center hours and conclude on Sunday, August 1 at 6 p.m.
"Our inaugural ‘72 in 72' event will offer the local community a unique and fun way to meet some of the wonderful animals at Maddie's Pet Adoption Center who are currently awaiting loving homes," said Jennifer Scarlett, D.V.M., co-president and associate director of veterinary services at the SFSPCA. "While our goal is to find homes for at least 72 animals, we also hope this event will raise broad awareness of animal welfare causes and encourage even more people to consider adopting a pet."
Although the "72 in 72" event aims to find homes for at least 72 animals, regardless of breed, the emergence of kitten season has brought even greater urgency to finding homes for the SFSPCA's at-capacity cat and kitten population. Adopted cats will receive a veterinary exam, behavior assessment, vaccinations, spay/neuter surgery and microchipping as well as feline leukemia testing, FIV testing for cats older than four months, a Feline-ality™ profile for cats older than nine months, a cat care DVD and a carrier.
"72 in 72" Schedule of Events
During the "72 in 72" event, the SFSPCA will host a bake sale to benefit the foster care programs, a Purrfect photo booth for Facebook uploads and a "Cute as a Button" station for adopters to make personalized pins featuring their new pet.
