The San Francisco SPCA and KDTV Univision 14 Partner to Help Chihuahuas

Date:
Thursday, March 7, 2013

Starting March 1st, 2013, the San Francisco SPCA and KDTV Univision 14 will partner for a nine week campaign to promote the free spay/neuter surgeries for Chihuahuas at the SF SPCA, as well as free adoptions. Univision personality Kira Villanova will be highlighted in the campaign, which will feature TV advertisements, TV segments and billboards.

"Chihuahuas represent approximately half of all dogs in Bay Area shelters," said Dr. Jennifer Scarlett, SF SPCA co-president. "We're excited that KDTV Univision 14 is helping us inform the Spanish speaking community about our upcoming promotions to help stop Chihuahua overpopulation and encourage adoption."

Kira Vilanova, the EMMY Award-winning host of KDTV Univision 14’s local morning show, “Al Despertar,” will be featured in the TV commercial spot and will host segments on “Al Despertar,” along with SF SPCA representative Adan Ruiz.

"I had my dog spayed, and I want to encourage everyone to do the same," said Vilanova. "There are too many Chihuahuas in shelters, and spaying/neutering is the best way to stop overpopulation. We also want to encourage families to adopt Chihuahuas into their homes. These little dogs are great companions and the perfect size for city living.”

Look for the SF SPCA’s Adan Ruiz on “Al Despertar” on Friday, March 29, Tuesday, April 2, Tuesday, April 16 and Tuesday, April 23.  He will speak with Kira Vilanova about the benefits of spaying/neutering and will also showcase adoptable dogs. In addition, SPCA commercials will air on KDTV Univision 14 from March 4 through March 22.
