Dr. Monica Shepherd was born and raised in Ohio. She attended Miami University in Oxford, OH for her bachelor's and master's degrees. Dr. Shepherd then moved to Florida where she completed her Ph.D. in Pharmacology and Therapeutics at the University of  Florida College of Medicine. She obtained her veterinary degree from University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine. Upon graduation she moved to Jacksonville, FL to practice at a privately funded low-cost animal hospital during the week and a critical care and emergency referral facility on the weekends. After almost two years she left the heat and humidity of Florida for the milder climate of San Francisco, California and joined The SF/SPCA. Dr. Shepherd lives in San Francisco with her husband and their four cats.
