Kate Kuzminski, DVM

Director, Shelter Medicine

After completing a Bachelor's of Science and Master's of Agribusiness Management from the University of Guelph, Guelph Ontario, Dr. Kuzminski worked as a policy advisor on animal welfare issues to the Minister of Agriculture. Realizing she could play a much more active role in this area, Dr. Kuzminski entered veterinary school and graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1999. After 7 years of companion animal practice, she traded practice ownership for the opportunity to realize more adventurous dreams.

Since 2006, she has been a Field Veterinarian with the Humane Society Veterinary Medical Association Field Services program, leading student teaching field clinics to remote native nation communities throughout the mid-western United States. She is also an active member of Veterinarians Without Borders-Vétérinaires sans Frontières, Canada, and regularly participates in canine population management programs in Guatemala.

As Director of Shelter Medicine, Dr. Kuzminski is committed to ensuring a safe, short passage for animals that pass through our doors and strengthening community partnerships that increase accessibility to veterinary care. A recent transplant to San Francisco, Dr. Kuzminski can often be found hiking with her dog Maui along the Pacific coast.
