Travel Certificates

Traveling with your pet? We can help!

There are a number of travel regulations and requirements that exist and vary according to different airlines and destinations. Before coming to the SF SPCA Veterinary Hospital, please research to determine what is necessary for your unique travel needs.

For domestic travel, State health officials generally require health certificates for all animals transported by air. Health certificates must be issued by a licensed veterinarian who examined the animal within 10 days of transport.

Airlines generally require travel certificates at check-in for dogs and cats.

For travel to U.S. territories and foreign countries, we recommend contacting the appropriate embassy, governmental agency, or consulate at least 4 weeks in advance (for travel to Hawaii, the United Kingdom, and other island nations, we recommend that you contact the appropriate agency a MINIMUM of 6 months prior to your planned date of departure).

Our veterinarians and client services staff are available to complete any examinations, lab work and necessary paperwork required for travel.
