ZeuterinTM, also known as zinc neutering, is a way to permanently sterilize male dogs with a single injection of zinc gluconate and arginine into each testicle.
Zeuterin is available for male dogs between three and ten months of age. Size restrictions do apply and need to be determined by clinic staff.
While the “zeutered” dog retains his testicles, their size and texture may be different after the procedure.
The injections into the testicles are quick, virtually painless, and performed under sedation rather than general anesthesia.
Zeutered dogs cannot get female dogs pregnant.
Zeutered dogs continue to produce some testosterone.
All zeutered dogs will have a "Z" tattoo in their groin area, and all will be implanted with a microchip.
Zeuterin may be the preferred option if your dog is at higher risk for general anesthesia, or for clients who prefer to retain their dog’s testicles.
Please see www.arksciences.com/products for more information.
If interested, please call the SF SPCA Spay/Neuter Clinic at 415-554-3030 or e-mail us at hospital@sfspca.org. A veterinarian or veterinary technician will be happy to discuss Zeuterin with you.
