The Leanne B. Roberts Animal Care Center
at The San Francisco SPCA
 The Leanne B. Roberts Animal Care Center will be a state-of-the-art veterinary hospital that will replace an aging and inadequate existing Community Veterinary Hospital which was built in 1932. It will be located in an existing structure adjacent to Maddie’s Pet Adoption Center. When completed, the 60,000 square foot Leanne B. Roberts Animal Care Center will have the largest medical area of any veterinary hospital in North America, and will be the second largest veterinary hospital in North America.
The Leanne B. Roberts Animal Care Center is named after the late Mrs. Roberts, a member of The SF/SPCA Board of Directors for 15 years from 1988 to 2003. The Center will be a tribute to Mrs. Robert’s deep love for animals, as well as her vision and unwavering support for this organization and its lifesaving mission.
The new facility will enhance all of our animal care services, including:
- Combining all veterinary services, Spay/Neuter Clinic, and the Feral Cat Assistance Program in one location.
- Advancing patient care with modern surgery suites and examination rooms.
- Increasing medical services for companion animals of low income and homeless individuals.
- Improving The SF/SPCA’s ability to build our earned income stream and to recruit and retain highly qualified staff.
- Providing improved facilities and state-of-the-art equipment will provide future educational opportunities for veterinary students, interns and residents, in the rapidly evolving field of Shelter Medicine.
- Continuing development of The SF/SPCA referral program in which talented board-certified specialists of The San Francisco Veterinary Specialists provide pro-bono specialty care to the resident shelter population.
The new facility is designed by award-winning Rauhaus Freedenfeld & Associates, and the local architect is Korth Sunseri Architects. Construction management is by Van Acker Construction and the general contractor is Plant Construction Company. |
