The San Francisco SPCA presents the Working Cats Program, developed and managed by the SF/SPCA’s Cat Assistance Team (C.A.T.).
Besides functioning as companion animals, cats have ‘worked’ for people by controlling rodents in ancient Egypt, on the Mayflower and most recently in Los Angeles flower marts and police station parking lots.
The SF/SPCA Working Cats Program offers under-socialized and feral cats non-traditional placement and adoption into residences and businesses with rodent issues or a need for companionship at work. Utilizing cats is a greener alternative than using toxic poisons to control rodents, and businesses report the cats foster repeat customers.
Once a pair of working cats is selected and the business has been assessed for safety, the cats are given a health check, vaccinations and a microchip. Participating businesses agree to adopt the working cats for their natural lives, giving them on-going care and attention, food, water and a safe location. Because cats are sensitive to changes in environment, SF/SPCA C.A.T. volunteers provide ongoing support to the cats and businesses during and after relocation to their new workplaces.
We are seeking business interested in adopting pairs of Working Cats. Click here to view more information on the SF/SPCA Working Cat Program. The SF/SPCA Working Cat Program is supported by your donations.
