You've just been transferred to a new city. There's only one problem. How do you find rental housing with your cat or dog? Faced with the same dilemma, countless animal lovers in San Francisco have turned to the Open Door Program at The San Francisco SPCA.

Nationwide, many people who wind up bringing their pets to animal shelters cite a lack of pet-friendly housing as the reason. The Society's Open Door Program encourages property owners to rent to responsible pet owners, and supports the efforts of tenants searching for pet-friendly housing. The Society sends Open Door information to landlord and tenant organizations, rental agencies, community leaders and the news media.

If you're a tenant searching for pet-friendly housing, let the SF SPCA guide you in creating a resume for your pet. Sample dog resumes and cat resumes for tenants are available.

If you're a landlord wondering about the benefits of renting to pet owners, you may wish to consider the following general guidlines.
