There are a variety of ways to volunteer in the Humane Education Department.
Classroom Volunteers teach children about dog safety, companion care, animal shelters, and much more. To become a school visit volunteer, you must be available during school hours at least 2x/month. Most presentations last 30-40 minutes (not including travel time.) Although a dog is required for some school visits, animals are no longer a requirement for several of the programs.
Camp Volunteers must be available from 9:00am - 3:00pm during at least one week of the summer or school vacation weeks. Occasionally volunteers are needed for shorter periods of time as guest speakers or for special events.
Special Project Volunteers are needed, but availability is extremely flexible. Most work in this category can be accomplished independently and/or from home.
Examples:
Sewing
Artwork
Book Evaluations
Tour Volunteers are needed to help with student tours of Maddie's Pet Adoption Center.
All volunteers (except Special Project Volunteers) are required to attend a volunteer orientation workshop.
