The SF/SPCA Spay/Neuter Clinic
As a leader in the animal welfare field, the San Francisco SPCA has long been on the front lines in the war against pet overpopulation. The SF/SPCA Spay/Neuter Clinic was one of the first facilities in the country to provide low-cost spay/neuter surgery.
Since it started in 1976, the Spay/Neuter Clinic has played a major role in reducing pet overpopulation in San Francisco. Thanks to The SF/SPCA's high-volume spay/neuter program, the number of dogs and cats entering the San Francisco shelter system has dropped by more than half since 1985.
The SF/SPCA also pioneered the practice of early spay/neuter surgery in the Bay Area and was the first local animal welfare organization to spay and neuter dogs and cats prior to adoption.
