SF/SPCA Hearing Dogs Hearing Dog, Clover. Another Hero!
Not long ago we received a nice letter from one of our graduates, Jack who has Hearing Dog, Clover. We thought you might enjoy reading some of his choice excerpts.
Hi Friends, Little Miss Clover and I are doing just great. She is happily controlling my life now and has helped me in so very many ways...Sadly for my wife, someone told me sometime back that I wasn't too bad at cookin', I do most of the cookin' in these parts. Recently, I had put on a big pot of pinto beans. This will sometimes coax some of the younger members of clan over for a visit. For a reason that now escapes me, I was in a hurry to get it boiling, and turned the heat up too high. I usually set my little timer, but didn't this time, and just got busy and forgot about it. I decided to take a short nap and immediately fell into a deep sleep...
About an hour and a half had passed, when uncharacteristically, Clover jumped right into the middle of me very roughly. Hard enough in fact to sort of scare me, and when I awoke, even though I was hollerin' STOP!, she literally made me jump up and fend off the attack. I immediately knew why she was so excited. There was only about three feet of clear air on the floor. I ran to the kitchen, threw open the door, and took the smoldering pot outside. There is no question in my mind who saved the house, possibly even my life. After the averted tragedy, but before the smoke cleared, I began to thank my little friend for her caring watch over me...
There is just no way for me to describe all of the changes Clover has made in my life... We are together constantly. Save the occasional motorcycle ride, she is always with me. I can't thank you enough for my little friend. I think back on my days there at the training center; it is one of my life's most favorite memories. I miss you all. Sooner or later, I'll be back with Clover to see everybody. For now you all are in my heart and in my prayers... Be happy and well. |
