CLAW is the acronym for CRITTER LOVERS AT WORK.
CLAW is an all volunteer support group of the San Francisco Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (The SF/SPCA). Its mission is to generate support for and raise public awareness of The SF/SPCA.
CLAW plans and produces special events. It was founded in 1987 with the first Holiday Windows at Gump's. Currently, CLAW produces two annual events: The Bark & Whine Ball and the Hats Off Fashion Show and Luncheon. Proceeds from both benefit The SF/SPCA Cinderella Fund which provides medical care for the shelter's neediest homeless dogs and cats.

Hats Off to Helping Homeless Animals!
Fundraiser for The SF/SPCA is a Headline Event
The 7th Annual “Hats Off” Luncheon & Fashion Show, hosted by CLAW (Critter Lovers At Work), an all-volunteer fundraising group for the San Francisco SPCA, was held on June 11th, 2008, at the plush Postrio restaurant in downtown San Francisco. “Hats Off” benefits The SF/SPCA’s Cinderella Fund, which provides medical treatment for the shelter’s neediest dogs and cats.
SF/SPCA President Jan McHugh-Smith greeted the elegantly attired guests, and thanked them for contributing to the lifesaving work of The SF/SPCA; special appreciation went to Judy Ranzer, the Chair of this year’s event. Media personality (KRON TV and KCBS radio), maven of millinery and animal lover extraordinaire, Jan Wahl, was Mistress of Ceremonies.
Over a delectable lunch in Postrio’s charming, garden-style setting, the guests, many of whom wore dramatic, wide brimmed hats, were treated to a fashion show emceed by Wahl. Exciting styles from designers Danielle Mawlaoui (Danielle of San Francisco), Simon Derayeh (Limu), children’s clothes designer Tina Schreiber (Velvet & Tweed), millinery from The Hat Generation, and jewelry from Jacqueline Stone and Mala Freeman, were featured. Shopping opportunities were also provided by several other vendors.
Then – hold onto your hats – it was time for the Live Auction conducted by Master Auctioneer Durwood Zedd. Bidding on the six fabulous items was enthusiastic and brisk. The high point came when guests bid on the chance for their dog to become the official mascot of the 2009 Bark & Whine Ball; the winning bid was $8,500. Altogether, the 2008 “Hats Off” function raised approximately $34,000 for the Cinderella Fund!
