Open Space Etiquette

In the San Francisco Bay Area, off-leash areas are typically shared with other people, dogs, horses, and abundant wildlife. This short course is designed to help handlers learn how to train and proof behaviors that will enable dogs to behave politely in a multi-use open space area. Focus will be on obedience, environmental and situational awareness, control and management.

Goals:

  • Learn responsibilities needed in order to be a welcome member of a multi-use open space area, specifically park rules, safety guidelines, and voice control of your dog
  • Manage behavior during the training process and in new or challenging situations
  • Train your dog in basic obedience skills needed to obtain voice control
  • Apply the above knowledge and skills to manage dogs in voice control areas, around wildlife, other animals and the public

Frequency & Duration: 1 hour per week for 4 weeks

Class includes: Handouts and Certificate of Completion

Fees: $60 for a 4-week series

Class capacity: 10-12

Location: Crissy Field

Course prerequisites: Dogs must be 5 months of age or older, able to be handled gently by a friendly stranger, and able to work safely around people and other dogs on and off leash.
