Why would an animal be considered a "Special Care Placement"?

Animals designated as "Special Care Placements" could have a physical handicap, medical problem, potential behavior problem or be a breed which we feel will require extraordinary care on the part of the new owner or require a special home environment.

What are the Special Care Requirements?

The requirements will depend on the animal and why it is designated as "Special Care Placement". There are two basic types of special care, medical or behavioral, but an animal could also have a combination of requirements.

Medical Example:

An epileptic or diabetic animal might have medically based special care requirements because it will need lifetime medication and veterinary care.

Behavioral Example:

Some dogs can be the perfect pet in every way until a stranger, child or cat comes into the home. This type of dog will need an owner who will carefully control the dog at home and will make the commitment of their personal time to provide reassurance to the dog and gently train it to accept others.

Combination Example:

A deaf or blind dog might require medical care in addition to special training and a home environment modified to meet the dogs needs.
