Dog Training Programs

We offer programs for people who already are or are interested in becoming professional dog trainers:

  • Certificate in Training and Counseling
  • Lectures, seminars, workshops.

The Programs vary from 2-day seminars to a six-week full-time course covering a range of useful topics including animal learning theory, dog behavior and development, obedience and clicker training, class teaching, treating common behavior problems, critical thinking and one-on-one counseling.

The courses are held in several sessions throughout the year. Evaluation for all CTC programs is based on numerous practical assignments and final written exams. A passing grade is required in all courses in order to graduate. Students graduating with honors (90% + average) are so indicated on their certificates. Tuitions are based on class content and skills presented.

Certificate in Training and Counseling (CTC)

The CTC is a six-week, full-time course designed to provide a thorough, well-rounded education in pet dog training and behavior counseling. The curriculum combines lecture, video, demonstration and round-table discussion with hands-on training as well as rehearsal of instructing and interviewing skills.

The six-week CTC is an accelerated program, Monday through Saturday, 9:00 am - 6:00 pm, requiring additional hours of training and homework. For a detailed schedule, please request an informaton packet. This accelerated program runs at an intense pace, which is not for everyone.

There is also a presumption of basic dog handling ability. Student backgrounds that tend to do better in the CTC are: trainers (both professional and competitors in sports such as obedience, agility etc.), professional dog walkers, veterinary technicians and experienced animal shelter staff and volunteers. If you do not have such a background, we strongly urge you to acquire handling experience by volunteering at a local animal shelter and/or learning a sport(s) with your own dog(s).

The graduation rate of the CTC is over 80% and even students who are unable to make all requirements for graduation learn a great deal.
