San Francisco, Calif., Aug 4 2011: The San Francisco SPCA is pleased to announce its first art exhibition/benefit at the Leanne B. Roberts Animal Care Center Gallery, entitled “Characters, Friends and Neighbors.” This new endeavor will get art on the walls of the beautiful facility, feature a diverse group of local artists, and most importantly support the SF SPCA’s mission. 25% of all art sales from the exhibitions will go directly to the SF SPCA.
For its opening exhibition/sale, the SF SPCA is presenting the work of Bay Area printmaker Xavier Viramontes. Xavier has been a local printmaker for over 25 years. His works have been shown locally, nationally and internationally, including the permanent collection of the Smithsonian Institute, National Museum of American Art. While much of his work deals with his upbringing and traditions unique to Mexican American culture, he also does prints of less serious subjects including dogs, cats and cowboys.
“Though humorous and sometimes outrageous in appearance, my dog and cat etchings also have a serious side. My intent is to bring attention to these wonderful animals in the hope that more people will consider adoption… and promote acts of kindness toward the homeless animals we come across in our daily lives,” says Xavier.
“We are pleased to partner with Mesart to showcase a diverse group of artists committed to helping the SF SPCA mission,” say Dr. Jennifer Scarlett and Jason Walthall, SF SPCA Co-Presidents.
The show opens August 4 and will be up through September 30, 2011. An artist’s reception and wine tasting will be August 11 from 6 to 7:30 PM at the Leanne B. Roberts Animal Care Center Gallery, at the SF SPCA, 201 Alabama Street, 2nd Floor, San Francisco, CA 94103.
The opening event is sponsored by Mesart.com, Mutt-Lynch Winery, and BMW/Mini of San Francisco.
